«Maces and Daggers from the Royal Ontario Museum’s Egyptian Collection»

Among the ancient Egyptian weapons housed in the Royal Ontario Museum collections are a variety of maceheads and daggers. The martial and symbolic uses of maces and daggers have been discussed in the Egyptological literature more broadly, but only a few of the examples from the ROM have been published and rarely is anything known about their provenance. This presentation will examine a few of the Egyptian weapons at the ROM. It will delve into the history of the ROM collections themselves and attempt to piece together the stories of these objects. Working from the sometimes sparse information available for each object, as well as by examining similar examples, an attempt will be made to uncover what the origins of these pieces were and what their potential uses may have been.
